Columbia Ob/Gyn Hosts its 4th New York City Regional Urogynecology Fellows Course
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) hosted the New York City Regional Urogynecology Fellows Course on Friday, February 9.
This medical education event brought together faculty, fellows, and residents in Urogynecology from various institutions across New York City. Columbia University, Cornell University, Mount Sinai, Montefiore, Stony Brook University, Northwell Health, and Atlantic Health were all represented at the event. The event's activities included 8 interactive stations where faculty taught various surgical procedures to address the common pelvic floor problem of prolapse, when female organs herniate beyond the vaginal opening. There was a session at the end reviewing transgender procedures with a clitoral dissection.
Among the course's 59 attendees were 21 residents and fellows and 21 faculty members. Multiple faculty members from the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at CUIMC were in attendance, including Dr. Ladin Yuteri-Kaplan, Dr. Svjetlana Lozo, and Dr. Helai Hesham.
Dr. Yurteri-Kaplan, the program director who has organized the course for the last four years, stated, “the excitement and enthusiasm from all the fellows and residents is palpable. They are so interested in learning new tips and tricks from a variety of faculty. Reviewing the post-course feedback, each trainee marked that the course exceeded their expectations. I do believe the stations which generated the most buzz around being valuable to the trainees included ureteral re-implantations and laparoscopic sacral-hysteropexies. The learners' excitement and eagerness is what helps me to push the envelope each year with new ideas.”
This event was made possible by the generous support of 6 industry sponsors: Boston Scientific, Coloplast, Cooper Surgical, Medtronic, Intuitive, and Origamisurgical.
